Vocabulary learning has a crucial role to play in developing students’ language skills. However, there are still a lot of students who struggle to memorize and make use of vocabulary effectively, the students at Star Edu English Center are not an exception. Hence, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of implicit instruction on students’ vocabulary retention, especially on intermediate level students. The results of the research were found by analysing quantitative data from pre-test and post-test of 40 students who were divided into control and experimental group. Besides that, pre- and post-questionnaires were also provided for experimental group in search of the effectiveness of implicit instruction on students’ attitude towards extensive reading – a strategy used in implicit instruction classroom. The results from the research indicated that students’ vocabulary retention could be improved when implicit instruction was employed to teach vocabulary. Besides that, the method was also proved to raise students’ awareness of the benefits of extensive reading; therefore, encouraged them to devote more time to take up reading habits.vi
